Scotties Day 4 Review

Day 4 at the Scotties – Tuesday, February 19

2 pm Draw #8

The Scores

Moore (Alberta) 3
Devereaux (Newfoundland and Labrador) 8
Scott (BC) 13
Crawford (New Brunswick) 7
Arsenault (Nova Scotia) 10
Galusha (Northwest Territories/Yukon) 7
Ross (Quebec) 6
Birt (PEI) 8

Kristie Moore is still winless as Stacie Devereaux controlled the game throughout and won 8-3 in 8 ends.   Devereaux took 4 in the 4th and 3 in the 7th to win the game.  This was Devereaux's first win at this year's Scotties. Kelly Scott and Andrea Crawford were tied 7-7 going into the 9th end.  Crawford had a stone in the 4 foot and  Kelly Scott had 5 other rocks in the house.  Scott used one of her stones and rolled in and hit the New Brunswick stone to score 6.  Mary Anne Arsenault's rink out of Nova Scotia has won their game over Kerry Galusha's rink out of Northwest Territories/Yukon by a final score of 10-7.  Arsenault got a three in the 2nd end to make it 3-1 at that time.  Northwest Territories/Yukon gave up 2 in the 9th and gave up a steal of 1 in the 10th.  Galusha didn't make her last to shots to try to send it into an extra end, giving Nova Scotia their first win.  Suzanne Birt needed a measure to tie the game up at 6 after being down 6-4 to send it to an extra against Quebec.  Allison Ross had the hammer in the extra end but she was heavy on her final draw and gave PEI two more points for the win.  Even though they lost, Brittany O'Rourke outcurled Sarah Fullerton 90% - 67%.  This was a big difference!

7:00 pm Draw #9

The Scores

Shumay (Saskatchewan) 5
Arsenault (Nova Scotia) 7
Homan (Ontario) 8
Ross (Quebec) 4
Moore (Alberta) 6
Jones (Manitoba) 9
Scott (BC) 5
Nedohin (Canada) 7

Jill Shumay and Mary Anne Arsenault had a good and close game that went until Saskatchewan ran out of rocks in the 10th.  After Shumay's first 4 wins, she has now lost 2 straight.  It is vice-versa for Arsenault.  Arsenault got 3 in the second and that was the difference.  Colleen Jones didn't look rusty today as she curled 95% in this draw compared to the Saskatchewan second Taryn Holtby who curled 78%.   Colleen Jones was the best out of all the curlers in this draw.  Rachel Homan improves to 6-0 after defeating Allison Ross of Quebec 8-4 in 9 ends.  Rachel, on her last shot in the third, made a great hit through the tight port and Ross was heavy on her draw.  Homan stole 3 in that end.  Jennifer Jones also has improved to 6-0 after a 9-6 win over Team Kristie Moore.  Moore had chosen to sit out this game and let Renee Sonnenberg take the reigns of the team.  As we all remember, it was Moore that won the Alberta Playdowns over Sonnenberg with a draw to the button in an extra end.  Jones also had a 3 ender in the 3rd and that was the big difference.  Heather Nedohin stayed at a perfect 6-0 record this evening after defeating Kelly Scott in a back and forth 7-5 win.  Nedohin only let Team BC get their deuce once.  A very great job by her! Diane Gushulak was filling in at lead for the second straight game for Sarah Wazney, who wasn't even at the KRock centre.  I hope she feels better soon.

Tomorrow’s Games:
Draw 10 - 2 pm
A--CA vs MB, B--NT vs PE, C--NL vs NB, D--SK vs ON
Draw 11 - 7 pm
A--NT vs AB, B--NS vs NL, C--BC vs PE D--NB vs QC

Watch tomorrow for…

I suggest that the Canada vs. Manitoba game at 2pm on Sheet A is the game that everyone will want to see.  Saskatchewan vs. Ontario on sheet D should be good as well in the same draw.
